FUJIFILM Dimatix Wins First-ever Emerging Technology Award From the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal

Awards Honor Silicon Valley’s Spirit of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Santa Clara, Calif. - November 28, 2006 - FUJIFILM Dimatix, Inc. was presented with the first-ever Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal Emerging Technology Award at a recent dinner held to recognize the winners. The company was selected in the Biotechnology category for its innovative Dimatix Materials Printer (DMP).

“The Emerging Technology Awards recognize Silicon Valley companies like FUJIFILM Dimatix that are creating and bringing to market cutting-edge technologies,” said Vintage Foster, publisher of the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal. “Our inaugural event honored 12 companies in 11 different categories. We believe these emerging companies and technologies have the potential to profoundly impact people and businesses.”

“This award is a testament to our belief that ink jet printing has the potential to change the materials processing world,” said Jan Sumerel, Ph.D., manager of biomedical sciences, FUJIFILM Dimatix. “Corporate and university research teams are using the DMP to print fluids and molecules for new applications ranging from RFID, flexible electronics and photovoltaics to biotechnology applications like biosensors and DNA synthesis reactions. The ability to precision print – without heat – fluids like DNA, enzymes, proteins, organic polymers and nanoparticles, can have wide-reaching implications.”

About the Dimatix Materials Printer
The Dimatix Materials Printer is a bench-top precision digital materials deposition system with versatile capabilities. It is the world’s first complete, low-cost solution for high-precision jetting of all kinds of functional fluids on any type of surface, including plastic, glass, metal sheets, silicon, membranes, gels, thin films and paper.

Relying on FUJIFILM Dimatix’s proprietary monolithic silicon-based MEMS structure to create a low-cost, 16-jet cartridge for precise, high-speed materials jetting, the DMP is a turnkey system for quickly developing and testing processes and prototypes, as well as conducting low-volume manufacturing of a broad range of products – from flexible circuits, RFID tags and displays to DNA arrays, optical lenses and wearable electronics.

By directly printing on their own substrates, customers can rapidly develop prototypes and keep process technology in-house. The printer’s small size and low price make it convenient and easy to use and own. Because the DMP platform was designed from the outset as a cost-effective picoliter precision jetting tool, it does not suffer from the component integration issues and related cost and complexity associated with traditional prototyping or production ink jet equipment.
